Part I.

Make your child's future life happy and prosperous.

 Remember that Happiness is the outcome of Sharing, Caring and recognition.

"We will reap what we sow. We are responsible for what we are to a large extent."

Most difficult thing in life is doing simple (small) things.
All big things are nothing but some total of all small things put together.
Learn to split the task at hand into small consistent workable units.
Methods are applicable to all aspects of life, even to understand written text or spoken language as well, properly.
Take care of simple (small) things, and the end results are surprisingly admirable.

Do you know that we need 250 years to acquire same amount of knowledge what a child can learn with in 15 years from its birth.

Ability to learn things by it self, taking care of self-welfare and doing things with out fear, when its is right is all that is needed by a child to make it's future peaceful bright and prosperous. - With these abilities it excels it self in its own chosen field of education and carrier.

It worked with my children and many others who wanted to help themselves.

There is no reason why it should not work with your children - when they are born all of them are equal (Helpless, curious and willing to learn, leaving some exceptions over 60% children fall in this category) you see.    

Use the capacity of child to learn about life in a right way - Right Education.

Just spend 15 minutes with your child every day and ensure it understands the following.  Who can do it better than You - parents !!!.

It should learn to take care of its welfare by it self - of course this ability is surprisingly gets diminished, as it learns from us through spoken language language of assumption).

Observe how it manages it self extremely well as long as it uses crying as the communication language.

Let it do it's works - like eating - trying to do what mummy does - through perception - (do not be afraid of accidents, they are much worse if they take place in your absence). This ability makes it self-dependent, do wonders from the day it starts learning and rest of its life.

b) Let it understand that it cannot gain (take) any thing with out loosing (giving)
Some thing - after all life is give and take and language of mathematics is all to keep track of ones welfare you see. If it understands this aspect it will never have any problem with language of mathematics and logical thinking for rest of it's life.

This ability makes it avoid reckless spending (indulging in wasteful  practices)and helps taking care of it's  and other's belongings including  Environment and Nature.

It should always do what it thinks fair if others do it to it. - Let the child
Experience the feeling of the opposing child by getting hit if it tries to take
 Some thing by force. Let children settle their scores under your supervision (don't  settle them the way you think right- justice should seem to be done). If necessary help the weak child to settle its score in its own way by helping it.

This ability makes it understand the true meaning of Freedom. It understands that Freedom will be taken away if it is not exercised properly and it can not  be interpreted  in its own way.

It should understand that it can not do things which hurt others as it  hurts it, if others behave the way it behaved.

Forget not, Happiness is the out come of sharing caring and recognition.

Let Us make a beginning and let our children shape their world where self-dependence, equal rights to every one, taking care of self and others' welfare, including environment and Nature, will be the way of life of every citizen of our children's world.

Let us give  them an opportunity to build a world of peace, prosperity  love and equality.

Let us give them - not just education-- but right education.

 Part II.

Nature wanted us to learn through perception, verification to assumption.

The easy way to teach children through perception.

Let them master how to perceive and draw.
 First let children to perceive and draw symbols of language of drawing.

Make sure that the child is not allowed to use an eraser. As using an eraser destroys the capacity of the child to keep track of its mistakes and improve on its methods of working through perception.

Teacher will not know where the child needs help to improve it if child erases its mistakes.

Let child draw the figures repetitively on plain paper book till it masters the art of perception and reproduction using brain and hands.

Do remember that every one makes mistakes and it has to realize the mistakes to improve upon with its own efforts with help from the teacher.  

Let us learn to draw the symbols of language of drawing - tools of perception.

A Square: !

A Triangle: <    =

A Line:     ¾

A curve: fe

And dots to identify the end and beginning of a curve / line.  " 1         1 "

Let us learn the art of drawing figures.

I suggest you carry out the exercise yourself personally to understand the difficulties a child may face before attempting to train a child. In fact this exercise helped a lot of graduates to improve their perception levels in general. I am of the opinion that the ability to gauge the things helps us to understand other situations also more perceptively. Are my findings are facts! or fiction? Figure out yourself. Your comments will be highly valuable to me.

No eraser please. Let it redraw the figures as many times as necessary.


Next teach children how to draw simple figures like brinjal, banana, apple, duck, joker, truck, pot etc or any other figure by using squares and triangles as out lines as illustrated.

The present method of asking children to trace (over write) on given figures is having a very limited purpose and all of us know it.

 Do remember that the child is preparing itself to develop perception and imagination to recognize objects seen around and represent them on paper by using it's skills of perception imagination and co-ordination of hand and fingers.

Do not worry if the child draws the figures wrongly to start with. Leave them on the book with a cross line on it to enable the child to know that it has drawn with mistakes. Wrongly drawn figures will guide the child to identify its mistakes and improve up on its methods of perception, imagination and co-ordination.

Ensure that the child holds the pencil at comfortably long distance.

Very important: Give it "B" pencil not "HB" pencil as we are doing now to enable it to learn to write with less pressure and develop good writing practices.

No eraser please. My experiments prove that child develops the habit of hiding things when it uses eraser that learn out of its mistakes. Neither the teacher nor the child can keep track of the progress if the mistakes are not there to see and the assessment of progress is more assumptive than perceptive!

You can figure it out your self, easily by a small experiment of drawing a pot five times.  

Let the child learn to perceive the concept of dots to represent approximate perceivable lengths and the ability to draw the lines at different angles.  And to construct the triangles and quadrangle diagrams with lines to proportionate dimensions.

My experiments show even students who have completed their higher studies (graduation and above) have a lot of trouble in making proportionate dimensioned diagrams when they are asked to do so. In fact I found the clarity of understanding is some how related to this ability of drawing proportionate diagrams. The children who are taught this aspect have shown better grasping capabilities than those children who are not trained in this aspect. In fact their ability to improve their handwriting was far more superior that the others irrespective of their grasping capacity when they came to me.


Now let the child learn how to draw curves.
Do ensure it maintains the praportions, starting and ending properly.


Next step is to make drawings from outlines and able to pick outlines from the drawings to reproduce them.

Other figures what children love to remember.

Ensure that they use rectangles, triangles, and dots to make proportionate outlines before making final diagrams. Give them colors to color the figures drawn by them.

The aim of the above exercise is to make children develop sense of proportionality by picking outlines with the help of squares, triangles and dots.

Now on wards encourage the child to reproduce the simple diagrams given in the text book as often as possible. As children love to draw they develop not only interest in using the hands to draw, but also control over their imagination, and ability to concentrate.  

Teaching the child the fist steps of language of mathematics.

Assumption, Perception, verification:

Associating a "number sound" (Assumption) with verifiable objects (Perception) and count (verification).

Remember language of mathematics is invented to verify the quantities and keep track of them in give and take operations by associating the objects with numbers WITH THE HELP OF SYMBOLS.

Do remember that numbers by themselves have no meaning until and unless they are associated with units (objects) or operations.

Language of mathematics uses all three languages Assumption,Perception and verification all together and very few symbols.The reason why great minds took such long time to invent and perfect it.

Simple numbers by themselves mean nothing until and unless they are associated with objects like, apple, pigs, sugar, milk etc. or Or operations (like repeat the units number of times).

In simple terms it means that a number should always be associated with its unit or operations. More details in Language of mathematics.

Use of fingers of hand to teach above concept, count and association - the easy way.

The child can perceive this concept very easily by showing fixed number of fingers while calling out the value of the number. Child should use right hand and learn to associate fixed fingers with each number (Note: same fingers should be associated with same  number always). If this method is followed the child will acquire to show fixed number of fingers automatically when a number is called out with out going through counting from one as they do now. This ability will help  a lot while they learn how to add.

Use right hand and fixed fingers only, to start with and then left hand fingers for counts 6 to 10. to enable the child to perceive the significance of numbers and concept of association. The count one should start with right-hand little finger and number six with left-hand little finger.

God given mathematical instrument to master first steps of Language of mathematics.

Teach the child to use fingers of the hand properly. Very important

In this method the child learns to associate a number with fixed number of fingers automatically and gains confidence while using them to master the art of additions, easily as it progresses.

 Follow this method religiously and ensure that every child confirms to it. The child needs guidance and can master the method easily under the watchful eye of its second God " Guru devo bhava."

What to do?

Associate "the sound one" with little finger of right hand.
The sound Two with little finger and ring finger.
The sound three with little finger, ring finger and middle finger.
The sound four with little finger, ring finger and middle finger and index finger.
The sound five with little finger, ring finger, middle finger, index finger and thumb.

Carry out the exercise by using both hands to teach sounds upto ten. Do not worry even if you the teacher guide feel the process is little slow and time consuming. Once the child perceives and masters the art of automatically to associate fingers with sounds its slowly picks up the speed of mastering the language of mathematics, a language of verification which no two individuals can interpret it differently.

Remember how you fumbled while learning the art of skipping by using brain and body limb co-ordination. Found it to be difficult in the beginning but enjoyed it as you mastered it.

The child is doing exactly the same to coordinate all three functions of the brain, perception, and verification and associating a sound through assumption to the concept of number system.

A task slows to start with but enjoyable by every one, the child and the teacher as the speed of picking up increases to galloping.

Remember that the only way to go fast is to go slow to start with.

Recall how proud you were to show your skill of skipping to all. The child gains confidence and will be proud to demonstrate the skills.

Don't be surprised if the child asks for more similar exercises than running away form number system.


The only way to go fast is to learn slowly.

The child will never have problem with the language of mathematics afterwards. What the child learns will be retained for life and what it reads is bound to be forgotten sooner or later.

The art of teaching multiple languages of communication - Language of mathematics and how to record it on a paper.

Introduce the child to "positional value of ones".

First step to "positional value of ones": perception, assumption and verification.

Do not forget that language of mathematics needs the child to use all its brain functions by using perception, verification and assumption together. Most probably this ability is understood differently and called as analytical thinking, logic or is it "IQ" you can figure it out your self.

Let the child learn the symbols of numbers "0" to "9" and perceive the positional value.

Follow them with symbols of numbers as illustrated below enable the child to realize the importance of positional value of the number as illustrated. Do remember that language of mathematics is using all three languages at a time and the child should perceive this.


Try this (The teacher guide can introduce the child to leadership qualities and build confidence and personality of the child. This can be first step of the teacher guide to reduce self-workload and introduce the children to the habit of verification and associated benefits. The discretion to carry out this exercise should be left to teacher guide). Why not allow the children to look into others books and help its friend in carrying out the exercise properly.  Children love sharing their knowledge and the recognition they get from their friends when they are sharing their knowledge.

Strengthen the concepts of association of numbers with other objects in the play ground.

Take the children to play ground and teach them how to play in groups of two, groups of three etc. up to ten to ensure that they understood the counting system and the concept of association of numbers with objects properly.

Note: Above exercise makes learning number system not only a play but also makes the purpose of numbers meaningful.

The Art of teaching the concepts of addition and subtraction.

Remember that language of mathematics is to keep track of give and take operations and the child should understand the importance of both operations together.

Let the child perceive the concepts of language of mathematics, addition and subtraction and associated meanings with them with the help of colored marbles and drawing and coloring.

Divide the whole class into as many groups of two as necessary.  Each group will have two children.  Use red and blue marbles.  Give five red marbles each to one set of children and five red marbles each to other set of children.  


The child should be made to perceive, if it gives one marble it's number reduces by one and it's friend's number increases by one and it should be clearly seen by different colors.  Repeat the exercise till the blue child has zero marbles.

The teacher should remember that the class is learning two concepts together and they are producing two sets of different results. That is to say the class will have two different types of recordings. One produced by blue group and the other by red group.

Strengthening the abilities of assumption with objects and concepts of verification.
The children should be made to tell the number of marbles with them by showing appropriate fixed fingers and call out the number.

Introduce the child to "positional value of ten".

First step to "positional value ten": perception, assumption and verification.

Now let the children call out "one ten" by opening all ten fingers of both closed hands.  Repeat the exercise by closing and opening the hands second time and calling "two tens".  This can be repeated up to "nine tens".

Teaching the concepts of positional values and how the value of the number symbol changes with its position.

Now pretend that you are you are placing "Count equivalent to ten" to "left side" of your body and  close all fingers to indicate nothing is left, children should imitate the  teacher guide. Let child perceive that one ten is placed to left of the body. Repeat the exercise till nine tens. Now you can proceed to represent them on paper as illustrated below:

Now teacher can verify the perception level of each child and take corrective action if necessary.  Though this exercise is slow to start with, children can be made to identify the mistakes of it's own friends and report the errors as they start perfecting the art of perception.

The only way to go fast is to learn slowly and studiedly.

As the time progresses the workload of the teacher comes down, as teacher has to monitor half the class only with the help of the children.

Monitoring workload can be slowly shifted to the groups if the teacher likes to do so.

Teaching the language of assumptions Spoken/written language.

The language of assumptions is enriched with imagination but has many pitfalls. These pitfalls are the main cause of communication-gap.

 Learning through perception is a guard to save us from the pitfalls.

Now, children can be taught rhymes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Humpty Dumpty etc. by reciting the rhyme with appropriate pauses at perceptions and assumptions by drawing appropriate representative diagrams on the blackboard.

For example: Teacher should pause at twinkle twinkle and show the concept of twinkling with the help of hands.  Next, pause at little and show the concept of little with hand.  Then pause at star and make a drawing of the star on the board and so on to enable the child to shift these mental activities from assumption to perception and use the language to express the world around it.

Now, you can start teaching the child A for apple B for bat etc. with the help of drawings made out of symbols of drawings namely rectangles and triangles etc. and then making desired figures by drawing smooth curves as illustrated earlier.  This exercise helps the child to get into the habit of perceiving the figures along with their assumed names.  This makes the child to create a mental picture of assumed names when their perceivable pictures and separate the assumed concepts like good, beautiful, wonderful etc. Every child gives it's own assumptions and imagines the meaning of "good" in the sentence of "good boy" by using both assumption and perception capabilities of the brain.

The teacher guide should ensure that the child develops this capability to separate perception and assumption. Teacher guide should ask questions and encourage the child to draw what it can perceive, and understand the difference between perceivable assumed sounds and only imaginable sounds like good, bad, beautiful etc., (word meanings).   

This exercise enables a child to understand the words like beautiful, wonderful etc. are having subjective meanings and need not necessarily remembered in toto while reading a lesson.  This capability makes the child understand a lesson by separating it to subjective and objective parts and get at real essence of the lesson which is lost in present day system of teaching.

Teaching the art of learning spellings the easy way.

Let the child learn to associate the sounds of commonly used two letters, three letters and four letters in spellings and reproduce them with the help of sounds.

No doubt that there are some exemptions in English language as it is based on Alphabets than phonetics. The exemptions are not many and can be easily memorized as the child comes across them.

Some examples to illustrate what I mean.

Ca, Ba, Ra, sim, ple, com, lpi, tion, etc. Just break the word to appropriate groups of letters and  associate the sounds with letters.
Try this and see how the child can write down spellings from the sounds of the word !!. A wonderful way to remember spellings.

Allowing the child to learn in natural way through perception and play allows it to learn the values of sharing, caring and recognition and their relevance to lead a satisfied peaceful life at the early formative stages.

This reduces lot of tension associated with present day teaching methods, which are predominantly, assumption based.  The methods applicable to grownups at school, college, and wage earners are discussed in another article.
