Child and Scientist.

This article makes an attempt to address the anxieties associated with Childhood education and how parents can help the child develop it's full potential. More details are available in childhood education.

The author of these articles Mr. M.C.S. Rao is an Ex-defence scientist. His article series facts are fiction are the life experiences and experimental out come (on children, adolescents and adults) of his life long project to find prosperous, peaceful happy life to all since 1969. Most difficult thing in life is doing simple (small) things.
All big things are nothing but some total of all small things put together.
Learn to split the task at hand into small consistent workable units.

Child & scientist:

As far as the learning processes of a child and a scientist are concerned there is no difference. Both the child and a scientist are trying to find out answers to basic questions like:

1.why?  2.What? 3.How? 4.Where? 5.When? 6.who?
7. shall I remember? 8. How often I am going to using it?

Unfortunately our education system is destroying this capability by the time child attains 10th year in general. Just observe the children from kindergarten to 5th standard and note down how their curiosity about the world around falls down year by year to understand what I am trying to put forward as my experimental results.

Let us know how a child and scientist follow the same methods of learning:

The procedures followed to collect the data needed to answer questions 1 to 6 by a child and a scientist are the same i.e. use physical sensory organs to perceive the world around:

The question seven is handled in a similar fashion except that a scientist uses his evolution benefit to make a copy of data as detailed below:
Common procedure followed by child, scientist and all other living species.

Procedures used to record the data by the child and scientist are same as far as physical bodies are concerned i.e. store the data collected in various locations of brain.

Deviation by a scientist due to evolutionary benefit:

A scientist normally uses the advantage he got due to evolution i.e. ability use thumb to write down what he perceived in symbolic and or in symbols on a more permanent media (stone, metal, palm leaf, paper etc.). A scientist understands that data stored in memory can not be retrieved as reliable as data on permanent base like stone, paper etc.     

The difference is a scientist uses both brain and a secondary (more reliable) media to record the data.
In my opinion the only difference that can distinguish human-species from animal-species is the ability of human-species to:

a) Use two of its four limbs (hands) for other purposes than locomotion.
b) To write, read and learn from written symbols.

Data retrieval and processing:

In my opinion we are having very little knowledge of how this information is stored and used. How ever this information predominately controls how you use stored information. If some functions are used quite often and retrieval and processing times are not acceptable they are stored in a separate area (sub brain) as preprocessed information for immediate action what we call as reflex-actions. Any way this is not our area of interest as these features are common to all living species.

The quantum of knowledge a child can acquire from birth to 15th year is so enormous an adult needs about 250 years to achieve the same feat.

If you like a small project for you:

Take an average child of 4-5 years old make a list of its activities like new people it meats, new words it learns, new activities it tries to learn by imitating, etc. for a week. Carried out the same exercise with any average scientist activities. You will understand yourself what I mean.
Do not forget the fact that the child is simultaneously carrying out the data processing and sorting out activities by finding answers to question 8. How often I am using it? A scientist need not do the same on event basis.

From above we find that every child is a potential scientist, most probably this ability is what making mosquitoes to out wit all our scientific efforts to control them.

The only difference between a child and a scientist is not in the ability to process the data but in presenting the data and processed results.

The core difference between the child and the scientist.

A child can do lot of things, which an adult may not be able to do, and we admire it. That is to say it is able to process the data to achieve end results. It may not be in a position to explain how it collected the data, and used it to achieve the results i.e. to say it lacks the art of present the processed results.

As I have pointed out a scientist normally uses secondary recording methods that is symbols, and permanent media (like stone, paper etc.) for data collection, processing and presenting the results. Availability of this information on written media enables the scientist himself or others to repeat the exercise and find out their validity to produce same results.  .     
A small example to make the ideas clear:

Let us assume a child is playing with matchsticks and accidentally put a hut to fire. It is scared of the outcome and will not be able to explain how it happened. Now let us assume a weapon scientist is around, he process the result of putting a hut to fire as a potential destructive weapon to destroy the enemy camps. He asks the child to repeat what it has done and notes down in detail each minute action of the child. Now he records and processes the data as given below:

End result of fire puts the child in confusion.
End result is a potential weapon as the data and results are recorded and any one can be trained to achieve the desired results.

We notice that the ability to observe and associate it with similar related data to achieve the desired results along with ability to train others and are present the data and results in a form which can be used by others. Any one can perform the act by following the steps to achieve the results. The ability of recording the information in a form that can be used by others is what distinguishes a scientist form a child.

All I imparted to my children is the capability to express them without ambiguity and encouraged them to sharpen their observation capabilities. A magic all my children are most successful in achieving what they wanted.

An explanation why I did? What I did?

After all I read a lot of detective stories and understood what distinguishes a detective from a rogue is detective's ability to notice the minute details which all think is irrelevant. Though the rouge is more intelligent he is lacking the capabilities to take care of simple things.

In my office I am having a plate on which it is prominently written, "most difficult thing in life is doing simple things".

All the adolescents and adults who sought my help were trained to develop this capability and all of them achieved impressive results.
Even failures have become first class students with in a span of 3 to 4 years.

Have patience (every one is having his own pace of learning) and allow them to develop the ability to observe and handle simple things with confidence and they will handle big problems as experts.

Nature gifted every child with abilities to observe and learn from birth.

My experiments show the education system introduced by British trader rulers, i.e. teaching methods to follow books blindly is changing the habits of child from verification to assumption and is destroying this natural ability.

You can experiment and find out yourself how your child becomes above average in all aspects, all you have to do is, encourage it to develop it's natural capabilities to observe and learn through verification. We all admire scientists then why discourage a budding nature gifted child from becoming one?  

I repeat Unfortunately our education system is destroying this capability by the time child attains 10th year in general. Just observe the children from kindergarten to 5th standard and note down how their curiosity about the world around falls down year by year to understand, is what I am trying to put forward as my experimental results.

Will it not be appropriate to make education system upto 5th standard more natural and practical in strengthening the capabilities of observation, verification and communication oriented than book oriented as we are doing now.
